When used as a type of wood, the bamboo harvested must already be several years old so that it possesses the strength needed for its new purpose. When used in making fishing rods, the bamboo needs this strength as well as flexibility to become the tool favored by many fishermen for its excellent performance.

We deal with a lot of moss and grass in the water around here. This is one of the first things I look for when going after a big lunker bass. Bait fishes hang out around the grasses for safety and of course the bass that feed on them are looking for that next meal.

A good rod that will last a lifetime and will come with a lifetime warranty against breakage can cost around $200. An excellent rod with the same warranty will run about $400. Buy a rod from someone who allows you to cast it before you buy. You a lot of casting in fly fishing and a rod should be light but strong enough to cast a fly line a minimum of 30 feet.

If you like this post, please buy me a beer for $3 8-)Using a long leader with a dry line is a most effective flyfishing strategy for rainbow trout in Kamloops area lakes especially while fishing a bloodworm or chironomid fly pattern. It took a long time for me to develop the patience and will to use a longer leader but when I did my success increased immensely. To most river fisherman or novice fly casters, anything over a 9 foot leader seems pretty long but it doesn’t come close to the 18′- 22′ long leaders that we use here in the trophy lakes.
